Palisade raw sewage neglect...

Residents, locals, and former workers of the town of Palisade will disagree. Some say it's nearly 40 years, others will say they have known of the issues with the sewer lagoons since 1977.

One thing is for sure, the town board has largely kicked the can down the road. But recently, the EPA has reportedly outlawed the use of sewer lagoons to treat raw sewage, causing them to take action. Palisade has chosen not to take ownership of their raw sewage, but instead build a pipeline through the farmland, and other private property, including the buffer zone, to reach the Clifton sewer plant.

A quick walk around the existing lagoons reveals a bike skills park and a stack yard containing piles of old asphalt and gravel. This may well be enough room to build a modern plant. This is an observation of what Ouray is building plus increased size due to population differences. Other sites may exist near the lagoons that are even better.

Lagoons can be reclaimed after construction, and bike parks and music venues can be built. This will be a far more positive outcome than the damage caused by running a raw sewage pipeline through the buffer zone, farmland, and other private property!
